Iceland Goes Bankrupt

I suppose it's customary to kickoff a blog's maiden voyage with a welcome message and thank you for reading. I'm going to save that for another time.

As I sit here a few months away from my immanent departure to Copenhagen in August, I realize my blog will evolve in the coming months and years as I adjust to my life in Europe. In addition to sharing my thoughts on business school, living in a foreign country, travel experiences and embarassing situations that are inevitable when living in a place where you barely speak the language, I'd like to use this as a forum to discuss transatlantic, and global developments.

Has anyone heard about Iceland essentially going bankrupt in October, 2008? This is somewhat old news but I recently did a presentation about the circumstances that led to the small island-nation's economic collapse and what the rest of the world could learn. In my research, I came across this graphic in the Atlantic Monthly that breaks down the Icelandic situation in 10 steps. Long story short: Don't over-leverage!
